Overview
The triangle is one of the signature submissions in grappling, using the legs to encircle the opponent’s neck and one arm to create a strangle. By locking the legs in a figure-four configuration and controlling the trapped arm, the attacker compresses the carotid arteries with various control methods like hooking a leg. When properly applied, the triangle produces a fast and reliable strangle that works at every level of the sport.
In modern no-gi, the triangle is a central part of guard-based offense.Athletes often pair triangle attacks with armbars using simple angle changes and hand-fighting to extend the trapped arm. Its ability to be applied from numerous guard position makes it one of the most popular submissions in grappling.
Common Applications
