Biography

Nick Rodriguez is an American submission grappler known for his explosive athleticism, elite wrestling, and rapid rise in the no-gi scene. Starting jiu-jitsu with a strong NCAA Division III wrestling background, Rodriguez shocked the grappling world by winning silver at the 2019 ADCC World Championships while still a blue belt, earning him his first nickname “The Black Belt Slayer.” His style blends powerful takedowns, relentless pace, and suffocating top pressure.

After training under John Danaher with the Danaher Death Squad, Rodriguez followed his teammates to Puerto Rico before eventually joining Craig Jones, Ethan Crelinsten, and Nicky Ryan to form B-Team Jiu-Jitsu in Austin, Texas. There, he continued to develop his game, becoming known for his wrestle-ups, bodylock passing, rear naked strangles, and his ability to overwhelm elite opponents with a blend of physicality, technique, and tactics. He earned another silver medal at ADCC 2022, defeating athletes like Felipe Pena and John Hansen on his way to the finals.

Rodriguez has since built one of the strongest competitive records in modern no-gi, winning major events such as EBI Absolutes, multiple UFC FPIs, and the 2024 CJI 1 +80kg division, earning a million-dollars. Known for his intensity, wrestling-heavy approach, and rapidly improving submission game, Nick Rodriguez remains one of the most dangerous and consistent heavyweight grapplers in the sport.
