Biography

Vinny Magalhaes is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, ADCC World Champion, and longtime veteran of elite no-gi competition. Known for his exceptional flexibility, creativity, and submission-heavy style, Magalhaes has competed at the highest levels for over two decades, earning a reputation as one of the most technically gifted heavyweight grapplers of his era.

Magalhaes rose to global prominence by winning the 2011 ADCC World Championship in the 99kg division. His no-gi game is marked by dangerous guard attacks, unorthodox setups, and the ability to threaten submissions from nearly any position. He is well known for his aggressive leglock entries and also incorporates the rubber guard—skills influenced by the time he spent learning aspects of the 10th Planet system.

Beyond ADCC, Magalhaes has competed in organizations such as the UFC, PFL, Metamoris, and Polaris, frequently facing the biggest names in grappling and MMA. His experience across multiple rule sets, combined with his fearlessness and technical depth, solidified him as one of the most respected no-gi competitors of his generation.

Magalhaes now runs Oasis Jiu-Jitsu in Las Vegas, where he coaches full time and continues to train and refine his game. His role as an instructor has further extended his influence in the grappling world, shaping new athletes with the same creativity and technical sophistication that defined his career.
