Overview

B-Team Jiu-Jitsu is a no-gi grappling team founded in 2021 in Austin, Texas, after the split from New Wave Jiu-Jitsu. Created by Craig Jones, Nicky Ryan, Nick Rodriguez, and Ethan Crelinsten, the team quickly became one of the most influential training rooms in modern jiu-jitsu. Known for its high-level instruction and relaxed culture, B-Team attracted athletes from around the world who sought elite no-gi training outside of traditional competition team structures.

B-Team also grew a massive fanbase through their YouTube vlog series, which showcased training sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and entertaining banter—especially the playful rivalry between Nicky Ryan and Jay Rodriguez. The channel played a major role in popularizing modern no-gi jiu-jitsu. Competitively, B-Team produced many successful athletes who earned major wins across ADCC Trials, WNO, Polaris, and other elite events. The team also had a memorable championship run at Quintet in 2023, winning gold against top-level teams.

In 2025, due to Craig Jones’s extended absence and other factors, the remaining team members rebranded the academy as Simple Man Martial Arts, expanding their focus to include both jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts. While most of the active competition squad transitioned to the new brand, Craig Jones retained ownership of the B-Team name and intellectual property. As a result, B-Team Jiu-Jitsu no longer operates as a full training facility, but the team name and branding remain under Craig’s control for future use.
