Yuri Simoes
BlackBiography
Yuri Simoes is a Brazilian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 3rd-degree black belt and professional submission grappler, widely regarded as one of the most decorated no-gi competitors of his generation. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Simoes is a student of Ricardo Vieira and currently represents the Caio Terra Association.
Simoes’ career is defined by an exceptional record in elite submission grappling competition. He is a three-time ADCC World Champion (2015 at under 88kg, 2017 at under 99kg, and 2022 in the absolute division). He is also a four-time No-Gi Worlds Champion, earning double gold in both 2014 and 2016.
His technical style reflects his early background in judo, which he began training at age four. Simoes blends powerful takedowns and a wrestling-first approach with high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His most recognized techniques include the drop seoi nage and a suffocating top pressure system that controls the hips and neutralizes guard players.
Simoes is also a veteran of professional mixed martial arts, having competed in ONE Championship and demonstrating his versatility across combat sports. Despite injuries that have occasionally sidelined him, his resilience and competitive accomplishments have solidified his status as one of the greatest grapplers in the history of the sport.
