Caio Terra
BlackBiography
Caio Terra is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and one of the most accomplished grapplers in the history of the sport. Known for his exceptional technical precision, speed, and efficiency, Terra built a legendary competitive resume in both gi and no-gi, earning multiple IBJJF World Championships and establishing himself as one of the most dominant competitors of his era.
Despite his smaller stature, Terra became famous for his highly technical guard, sharp transitions, and submission-oriented style—proving that perfect mechanics can overcome size and strength. He achieved elite success across rule sets, including titles at IBJJF No-Gi Worlds, cementing his status as one of the few athletes to reach the top of both gi and no-gi competition. Terra also popularized a modified straight ankle lock from De La Riva—now widely known as the Caio Terra foot lock.
In recent years, Terra has shifted his focus toward coaching and team development. As the founder of the Caio Terra Association (CTA), he mentors numerous world-class athletes around the world through his affiliate academies and growing global network, continuing to spread his highly technical approach to jiu-jitsu.
Caio Terra remains a foundational figure in modern jiu-jitsu: a legend of competition and a highly respected coach whose influence continues to shape the sport.
