Elijah Dorsey

Biography

Elijah Dorsey is an American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and a rapidly emerging elite competitor in both gi and no-gi grappling. Nicknamed “Big Breakfast,” he represents Team Lloyd Irvin and competes primarily in the welterweight division, typically around 77kg.

Dorsey began his martial arts journey in Muay Thai and self-defense before transitioning fully to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He started training at Team Lloyd Irvin in 2008 under Donald Achnick and quickly established himself as one of the top prospects of his generation.

During his colored belt career, Dorsey earned multiple major medals, including podium finishes at the IBJJF World and Pan Championships. He was promoted to black belt in June 2022.

His breakout achievement came in 2023 when he won the East Coast ADCC Trials, securing qualification for the 2024 ADCC World Championships. During his trials run, he defeated multiple ADCC veterans en route to the title.

Dorsey’s grappling style is well-rounded and methodical, featuring strong positional control, calculated guard passing, and high-percentage finishes such as the armbar and rear naked strangle from back control.

Since earning his black belt, he has continued to compete at the highest level of the sport.
