Mica Galvao

Biography

Mica Galvao is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Luta Livre black belt from Manaus, Brazil, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished prodigies in modern grappling. Born in 2003, he began training at age four under his father, Melqui Galvao, and developed into a phenom known for his submission-heavy style, sharp technique, and ability to dominate older and heavier opponents from a young age.

Galvao earned his black belt in 2021 at just 17 years old, only nine months after receiving his brown belt. Even before reaching black belt, he routinely competed against and submitted high-level black belts in both gi and no-gi competition, showcasing a complete, aggressive game built around explosive back takes, tight strangles, and a devastating armbar.

In 2024, Galvao achieved the extremely rare Super Grand Slam, winning the European Championship, Pan Championship, Brazilian Nationals, and IBJJF World Championship all in the same year—then adding the ADCC World Championship title to complete the feat. His high submission rate and relentless forward pressure have made him one of the most dangerous and exciting competitors of his generation.

Although Galvao has expressed long-term interest in transitioning to MMA, he remains focused on professional grappling and signed an extension with FloGrappling to continue competing in major events. Recently, he has begun serving as a Sergeant in the Brazilian Army.
