Joao Miyao

Joao Miyao is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and one of the most successful no-gi competitors in the lighter divisions. Known for his relentless pace, inversion-heavy guard, and elite back-taking sequences, Joao became a fixture on podiums at IBJJF No-Gi Worlds and other major events. His no-gi game is defined by constant movement, technical precision, and his ability to create sweeping and back-taking opportunities from highly advanced positions.
In recent years, Joao has continued to compete in the Masters divisions, where he has dominated with the same technical sharpness and fluid movement that defined his adult career. Joao currently coaches and trains with his twin brother Paulo Miyao at Studio 1908 in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Outside of competition, Joao is known for his unique and humorous online presence. His Instagram page is widely followed for its mix of dry humor, bizarre memes, and entertaining technique breakdowns—making him one of the most entertaining and beloved personalities in the jiu-jitsu community.
