Biography
Nathan Orchard is an American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and one of the most prominent representatives of the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system. A primary student of Eddie Bravo, he emerged as one of the team’s most successful early-generation competitors, known for a submission-oriented, catch-wrestling-influenced no-gi style.
Nathan Orchard earned his black belt in 2011 and has built a long and respected career in submission-only grappling. He is best known for his mastery of the twister and his popularization of the “Dead Orchard,” a figure-four top lock from rubber guard that traps both shoulders and creates powerful finishing options. Among his notable achievements, he is the only athlete to leglock Craig Jones in a professional grappling match.
His technical style is defined by unconventional leg attacks and positions central to the 10th Planet system, including the truck and the rubber guard. In addition to competing, Nathan Orchard is a respected instructor and the founder of 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Portland in Oregon, where he has coached numerous high-level grapplers.
