Diogo Reis
BlackBiography
Diogo Reis, widely known by the nickname “Baby Shark,” is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and one of the most dominant no-gi grapplers of his generation. Born in 2002 in Manaus, Brazil, he began training at age ten and quickly developed into a highly technical, relentless competitor known for his speed, timing, and aggressive style.
Reis trains under Melqui Galvao as part of the Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu team, alongside elite teammates such as Mica Galvao. He rose through the ranks at an exceptional pace, earning his black belt in 2020 after winning the IBJJF Grand Slam at the colored belt level—claiming the World, Pan, European, and Brazilian National Championships in the same season.
Nicknamed “Baby Shark” due to his smaller stature early in his career, the name stuck as his ferocity on the mats became his trademark. Reis is known for his high-pressure wrestling, constant forward movement, precise back-taking sequences, and dangerous submission mechanics, making him one of the most complete athletes in the lighter weight classes.
In no-gi, Reis cemented himself as one of the world’s best by winning the ADCC World Championship twice (2022 and 2024) in the 66kg division. He later signed with ONE Championship, where he continues to compete in top-level submission grappling events while building on his reputation as one of the most exciting and technical competitors of his era.
