Biography

Richie Martinez is an American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and one of the most visible competitors to emerge from the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system. He received his black belt from Eddie Bravo in 2015 and, along with his brother Geo Martinez, became part of the well-known “Freak Brothers” duo. He is the head instructor of 10th Planet Freaks in San Diego.

Richie Martinez is an elite no-gi submission-only competitor, recognized for a dynamic and unorthodox style influenced by his background as a breakdancer.

His technical approach is rooted in the 10th Planet system, with specialties in techniques such as the rubber guard, Japanese necktie, and gogoplata. One of his most notable career moments came at Quintet 2, where he submitted MMA legend Kazushi Sakuraba with a darce.
