Biography
Owen Jones is an English Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and one of the most exciting young stars in modern submission grappling. Originally from London, England, Jones has emerged as the face of a new generation of UK grapplers, known for his relentless pace, fearless approach, and ability to defeat elite black belts despite still competing as a brown belt.
Jones currently represents Apex Jiu-Jitsu in Atlanta and used to train regularly with B-Team Jiu-Jitsu in Austin, Texas. Competing primarily in the −66kg (145 lbs) division, he has built a reputation for attacking no-gi grappling with maturity far beyond his years, blending aggressive passing with modern leglock systems and intricate guard work.
His international breakout came in 2023 when he won the ADCC European Trials, becoming one of the youngest European athletes ever to qualify for the ADCC World Championships. At ADCC 2024 in Las Vegas, Jones entered the tournament as a dark horse but shocked the field, submitting world-class opponents—including Gabriel Sousa—and finishing fourth overall, an extraordinary achievement for a non–black belt competitor.
Jones has since become a fixture on the professional circuit, competing on major stages such as WNO, Polaris, and AIGA. In 2025, he appeared at CJI 2, where he further enhanced his reputation by competing against significantly larger opponents in exhibition and team-based formats.
Technically, Jones is known for his high-paced passing, dangerous leglocks, and a unique use of the reverse closed guard to off-balance and attack elite opponents. His combination of creativity, pace, and composure has made him one of the most watched young competitors in the sport, with many viewing him as a future ADCC title contender.
