Marcus Almeida
BlackBiography
Marcus Almeida is a Brazilian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 4th-degree black belt and professional mixed martial artist, widely regarded as one of the greatest competitors in the history of the sport. A black belt under Rodrigo Cavaca, he holds a record-setting collection of world titles across gi and no-gi competition and is considered by many to be the most accomplished athlete in IBJJF history. He currently competes in the heavyweight division of the UFC after an initial run with ONE Championship.
Marcus Almeida’s competitive record in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is unparalleled. He is a 17-time IBJJF World Champion, including six absolute (open weight) titles, surpassing the previous record set by Roger Gracie. In no-gi competition, he is a two-time ADCC World Champion (2013 and 2017) and a two-time IBJJF No-Gi Worlds Champion. His style is defined by an exceptional work rate and mobility for his size, blending high-level wrestling with a relentless top game and a submission arsenal that includes the armbar and toe hold.
After accomplishing nearly everything possible in grappling, Marcus Almeida transitioned to professional mixed martial arts in 2021, signing with ONE Championship. He won five of his first six bouts, four by submission, demonstrating the direct applicability of his grappling skills to MMA. In 2025, he signed with the UFC, where he aims to replicate his dominance at the highest level of mixed martial arts.
