Biography

Levi Jones-Leary is an Australian Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt known for his impassable guard, dynamic berimbolo entries, and modern leg-locking systems built around heavy K-guard usage. One of the most successful competitors to emerge from Australia, Jones-Leary rose to international prominence through his technical versatility and his ability to impose a highly fluid, movement-oriented guard game against elite opponents.

Jones-Leary earned his black belt from Murilo Santana while training at Unity Jiu-Jitsu in New York City, where he refined the style that made him widely recognized—clean inversions, tight back-taking sequences, and an exceptional ability to off-balance opponents from both gi and no-gi guards. After a spectacular gi career, he transitioned heavily into no-gi, working closely with Lachlan Giles to develop his modern K-guard, leg-entanglement systems, and overall no-gi strategy. He delivered an unforgettable performances at CJI 1, where he reached the finals and had a razor-close match with Kade Ruotolo. His guard became so notoriously difficult to pass that it turned into a study subject for competitors around the world.

Known for his relaxed yet highly technical approach, Jones-Leary has competed across major international events in both gi and no-gi, showcasing a distinctive blend of modern guard mechanics and an underrated, effective top game—especially his passing sequences. Beyond competition, he is also known for his creative side, often producing and sharing his own music. His unique style and influence have helped raise the profile of Australian jiu-jitsu and cemented him as one of the most respected technicians of his generation.
