Biography

Kyvann Gonzalez is an American Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, coach, and competitor best known as the co-founder of Bodega Jiu-Jitsu in New Jersey. In 2022, Gonzalez made the major life decision to quit his full-time job in order to open Bodega Jiu-Jitsu alongside training partner Chas Makk—a move that quickly turned the academy into one of the most popular no-gi training rooms on the East Coast. The gym later became home to elite competitors such as Gianni Grippo, further elevating its profile.

Gonzalez is strongly influenced by the ecological approach to jiu-jitsu, emphasizing task-based games, problem-solving drills, and dynamic training environments designed to accelerate skill development. His coaching style blends modern training theory with practical, competition-tested technique, making him a highly respected instructor among both hobbyists and professional athletes.

As a competitor, Gonzalez has appeared on several events, most notably fighting on the UFC BJJ: Road to the Title series, where he showcased his advanced guard and well-rounded no-gi skill set. He continues to balance active competition with coaching responsibilities at Bodega Jiu-Jitsu.

Outside of competition and coaching, Kyvann is well-known for his humorous personality and creative jiu-jitsu memes on Instagram, which have earned him a dedicated online following. His blend of technical insight, comedic storytelling, and passion for the sport has made him one of the most charismatic and recognizable figures in the New Jersey jiu-jitsu scene.
