Biography

Jon Calestine is an American Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, EBI champion, and one of the most technically skilled leglock specialists to emerge from the modern no-gi era. He gained prominence through his time training with the Danaher Death Squad, where he developed a highly refined guard game built around precision entries, tight control mechanics, and a dangerous lower-body submission arsenal.

Known for his sharp technical breakdowns and analytical approach, Calestine has produced widely praised instructional materialβ€”particularly through his Patreonβ€”where he showcases his systematic guard work, leg entanglements, and transitional strategies. His ability to blend a dynamic guard with strong positional awareness made him one of the most respected competitors during his active years on the professional no-gi circuit.

Now focused primarily on coaching, Calestine teaches at Kings Combat Williamsburg, where he is dedicated to developing the next generation of athletes. His influence continues to grow through both his teaching and technical contributions to modern grappling.
