Overview
Legion American Jiu-Jitsu (Legion AJJ) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy founded in 2020 by Keenan Cornelius in San Diego, California. Created as a modern, innovation-focused training environment, Legion AJJ quickly became one of the largest and most influential academies in the United States. The name “American Jiu-Jitsu” reflects Keenan’s emphasis on systemized instruction, open-minded training methods, and the evolution of jiu-jitsu through uniquely American competitive and technical approaches.
Legion AJJ is known for its structured class system, high-quality instruction, and emphasis on both gi and no-gi development. The academy attracts a wide range of athletes—recreational practitioners, aspiring competitors, and established professionals—drawn by Keenan’s reputation for technical innovation and analytical teaching. Legion quickly became a hub for modern positional systems, including lapel guard variations in the gi and systemized wrestling, guard retention, and passing frameworks for no-gi.
Under Keenan’s leadership, Legion AJJ has produced a growing roster of successful competitors across major IBJJF and professional events. The academy continues to expand its influence through its competition team, detailed instructional content, and its role as one of the premier centers for jiu-jitsu in the United States.
