Biography

Firas Zahabi is a Canadian Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, renowned MMA coach, and the longtime head instructor of Tristar Gym in Montreal—one of the most influential training centers in modern combat sports. Widely respected for his analytical, systems-based approach to martial arts, Zahabi has coached and mentored some of the greatest fighters and grapplers of the last two decades.

Zahabi is best known for guiding the career of UFC legend Georges St-Pierre, helping shape GSP’s dominant run as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. Under his leadership, Tristar became a global destination for elite athletes, producing top-level fighters and high-level grapplers while maintaining a reputation for intelligent, disciplined, and highly technical training.

In grappling, Zahabi has significantly influenced the careers of standout competitors such as Oliver Taza and Ethan Crelinsten. His coaching emphasizes strategic decision making, energy management, and efficient technique—hallmarks of his training philosophy across all disciplines.

Beyond the gym, Zahabi has become a prominent voice in the martial arts community through his online content, instructional breakdowns, and widely followed teachings on technique, training methodology, and game strategy. His intellectual approach, coaching longevity, and impact across both MMA and grappling have cemented him as one of the most respected and influential coaches in the world.
