Dong Hyun Kim, widely known by his nickname “Stun Gun,” is a retired South Korean mixed martial artist who competed in the UFC welterweight division. Although best recognized for his MMA career, Kim’s fighting style was deeply rooted in his extensive grappling background, which he used to control and neutralize opponents throughout his career.
Kim’s martial arts foundation is diverse and highly credentialed. He holds a 4th Dan black belt in judo, a 3rd Dan black belt in taekwondo, and a 1st Dan black belt in hapkido, along with a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His blend of traditional Korean grappling and modern BJJ contributed to his effectiveness on the ground and earned him the Korean nickname “Maemi” (Cicada) for his ability to take opponents down and maintain relentless control.
